HMO Enforcement
Julian has been undertaking Houses in Multiple Occupation and property licensing work for many years and is considered to be a leader in this field having written a book on HMOs -‘The Law of Houses in Multiple Occupation: A Practical Guide to HMO Proceedings’ published by Law Brief Publishing. He can advise on civil penalties, rent repayment orders and prosecutions for all manner of Housing Act and property licensing offences. In the space of some ten years’ he has developed a niche in this area and is recognised by landlords and councils as someone who know his way around this complex and changing area. There is little about HMO and property licensing law including fire regulation rules that he does not know. There are few lawyers who will have dealt with as many HMO / licensing or management regulation matters as Julian and in as many local authorities.
Crime and Regulatory law
Julian has a thriving crime and regulatory practice. Whether as advocate himself or not Julian has defended thousands of people over the years in matters ranging from serious criminal offences to minor matters. In any event, Julian recognises that to the client all matters are serious. He has defended many professionals facing reputationally disastrous allegations and enjoys representing members of the Armed Forces. He spent three years working as a Senior Crown Prosecutor.
Traffic and Transport
Julian has defended many traffic and transport cases and was awarded the Acquisition International motoring lawyer of the year award in 2014. He is well used to defending motorists up and down the country whatever the charge.

Julian regularly defends students whether at school, undergraduate or postgraduate level and whether accused of academic or non-academic misconduct. He has undertaken several student rape cases and understands the pressures both parents and student can feel in this niche area.
Valuation Tribunal
Julian undertakes Valuation Tribunal work and is known for representing Council Taxpayers with sticky problems they are unable to solve themselves. There are very few lawyers who undertake this work, and he would be delighted to speak to you.
