Marianna Michaelides

Senior Associate Solicitor

Marianna is a Senior Associate in the Family Department and specialises in all areas of international children and domestic private children law. She is a Resolution specialist accredited lawyer in both private children law and child abduction. Marianna is also on the International Child Abduction and Contact Unit’s (ICACU) panel of solicitors, and sits on Resolution’s International Committee.

Marianna is committed to and passionate about family law, in particular in relation to the welfare of children. Marianna is sensitive and empathetic to clients’ issues, and provides clear and confident advice. Legal directories praise her for taking “a nuanced and detailed approach to cases, [she] is tactical and fights hard for her clients. She really cares about getting the right results.” She is described as “one of the most empathetic lawyers.. she always understands the client’s needs. She’s hard-working, very capable and intellectually able.”

Marianna has developed a particular expertise in international parental child abduction, and she regularly represents clients in matters involving abductions to Hague and non-Hague countries. Marianna’s cases are often in the High Court, and she has been involved in a number of cases in the Court of Appeal.

In addition to her child abduction specialism, Marianna’s practice encompasses complex aspects of cross border and domestic children law, including:

  • Advising in relation to jurisdictional disputes, matters under the inherent jurisdiction, international relocation, forced marriage, and female genital mutilation cases
  • Advising intended parents on domestic and international surrogacy arrangements
  • Acting for stranded spouses (Transnational marriage abandonment cases) separated from their children
  • Advising on general jurisdictional disputes affecting children, and assisting clients in enforcing and registering foreign orders
  • Representing parties within a wide range of highly acrimonious and often difficult disputes including applications under Section 8 of the Children Act 1989, and the Family Law Act 1996
  • Advising high profile clients in complex international committal cases

Marianna has been ranked in Chambers and Partners for Children: Cross Border Disputes for the past 4 years, and has been listed as a recommended lawyer in Legal 500 for the past 3 years.

Marianna was shortlisted for Family Law Associate Solicitor of the Year Award at the 2023 Family Law Awards.
