Share Article: The War in Ukraine and 1980 Hague Child Abduction Convention: to return or not to return? That is the question.

Freemans is pleased to support the forthcoming event organised by the Family Law Committee of IBA and Civil, family and inheritance committee of UBA on 27 July 2023 to discuss the recent case law on return of children to Ukraine under the Hague Convention on International Abduction of Children of 25 October 1980 in member states in the context of the ongoing war.

Laura Coyle, Partner in our Family Department and specialist in international Family Law concerning children, has been invited to contribute to the discussion regarding the current position in the jurisdiction of England and Wales and the programme features speakers from a number of Hague member states who will be able to provide an insightful discussion on how the 1980 Hague Convention has been applied in different jurisdictions when dealing with Ukrainian children.

Freemans are consistently recognised as one of the leading firms in this jurisdiction dealing with matters concerning the international movement and displacement of children including child abduction and relocation. Details of the department’s expertise and reported cases can be found here.
